Holiday activities

It is important to develop the general knowledge in your children. The following are suggestions for activities during the holidays.

  • Queensland Museum and the Gallery of Modern Art at Southbank

  • The St. Helena Island ruins in Moreton Bay

  • A walk through the Brisbane CBD taking in historic buildings, the restored City Hall, The Commissariat Stores and Wickham Street mill (built by convicts)

  • A ride on the city cats in the Brisbane River

  • Visit a community garden

  • Local museums

  • A music concert or band recital

  • Ipswich Railway Workshops museum

  • Caboolture Historical village

  • ANZAC Square war memorial and flame

  • State Library of Queensland school holiday program

  • Multicultural festivals

  • Guide Dogs open days

  • Logan libraries school holiday activities

  • Berrinba Wetlands (Logan)

  • Daisy Hill Forrest Koala Sanctuary

After your visit, talk about the experience together around the dinner table. Perhaps your children could draw a picture, write a letter about it to their grandparents or write something down to help remember the activity.  It all helps and your encouragement at home is a powerful tool that should be used to the full.
