Performing Arts Program: Music

All students have a weekly music lesson with a specialist music teacher. In addition to this, our music program has a large number of students involved in the instrumental program. Our instrumental staff are all very accomplished musicians and they bring with them a wealth of teaching experience. We have a strings teacher and an instrumental teacher for instruction in woodwind brass and percussion. Many of our instrumental students are involved in concert band and senior string ensemble. Beginner instrumental students participate in beginner band and junior string ensemble during semester 2.
In 2018 we will be expanding  the instrumental music program.  In the past the strings program has been available to students from year 3 to year 6, and the band program has been available to students from year 4 to year 6.  In 2018 this will  change.  All year 2 students will have the opportunity to trial playing the violin with Mr Fodor.  After that trial period, some students will be offered the opportunity to continue learning.  Who is chosen to continue will depend on a lot of factors, including aptitude and dedication.  This trial period will take place in term 1.
Also in first term of 2018, some year 3 students will be invited to try out for the band program with Mrs Chivers.  The instruments on offer for these students will be flutes, clarinets, trumpets and trombones.  We have made a significant investment into this expansion, by purchasing special lightweight, plastic flutes, trumpets and trombones to get the younger, smaller children started.  The selected students will be contacted early in 2018 to begin testing for the instruments.
If you have any further queries please come along to the Instrumental information afternoon on Thursday afternoon 9th November at 3.15 pm in the Music Room.
Our choral program consists of five choirs. These include prep choir, junior choir (years 1 and 2), year 3 choir, senior choir (years 4-6) and Boys Aloud (years 3-6).

Crestmead State School’s performing arts program has furthered its fine tradition of encouraging and enhancing musical talent and has continued to serve the community through performances both in and out of school.
